NURS 6630N Week 6 Assignment (2020) Topic: Assessing and Treating Clients with Psychosis and Schizophrenia NURS- 6630N Approaches to Treatment 3/31/2020 Introduction Having psychosis is a symptom not a disorder and approximately 100,000young people experience psychosis every year and the client in psychotic episode may include depression, anxiety, having problem sleeping, social withdrawal, no interest in motivation, and having problem with daily functioning (NIMH, 2016). Schizophrenia can occur in any societies without looking at the race, religion, culture, or class and the estimated incidents every year in United States is 300,000 and it affects about 2.2 million people (Stahl, 2013). Psychosis involves different symptoms which include hallucinations and delusions and which the treatment includes both psychotherapy and psychopharmacology for the symptoms. As a provider is very important to know the clinical competences by using evidenced based practice when determining and prescribing medication to manage the client’s psychological disorders or any related specific diagnosis. Schizophrenia is one of the serious mental disorders that can affect the client’s ability to think clearly, manage emotions, make decisions, and ability to relate to others so this mental illness affects approximately 1% of people that live in America (NAMI, 2019). This mental disorder is complex and long term illness. When the provider is treating the client during the decision making process for the treatment, there are three components that the provider should have in mind and that include efficacy, effectiveness, and efficient of the medication and also the client’s preferences. The main idea of this paper is to assess and treat client who requires antipsychotic therapy according to the decision of making the right choice of medication to be used for the Pakistan woman who has diagnosis of schizophrenia and having delusional, how the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic can be affected, and ethical considerations that might impact the treatment intervention and how to communicate to the client (Cagliostro, 2018). Decision #1 Which decision did you select: As a provider I will start the client on Invega Sustenna 234 mg intramuscular X1 followed by 156 mg intramuscular on day 4 and monthly thereafter and is a long acting injection - - - - - - - - - - - - - - References Cagliostro, D.
