A: Unit of Instruction
1. Grade Level: Kindergarten
2. Content Area: Math, Numbers to 10; Reveal Math Curriculum
3. Instructional Strategies: Cooperative Learning, Differentiated Instruction
Students are taught math through the math workshop model. Math workshop
is a student-centered approach to teaching math. Students rotate through
groups or centers daily that include direct instruction, guided practice and
independent learning. Students can engage in mathematics in a hands-on,
engaging environment. Math workshops create an environment where
students participate in collaborative learning. Collaborative learning fosters
communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Math workshop
naturally promotes the ability of the teacher to participate in intentionally
differentiated instruction. I can tailor the instruction to fit the needs of my
diverse classroom based on assessment scores and student needs.
4. Assessment Strategy: Diagnostic Assessment
Diagnostic Assessments are a form of pre-assessment used to identify
students’ strengths, weaknesses, and prior knowledge before beginning the
unit. Reveal math curriculum provides a diagnostic assessment, How Ready

differentiated instruction for the unit. As students in kindergarten are pre-
