1. Meaning of Globalization

What does it mean?

Globalization means that the world is becoming more connected. Countries are not
working alone anymore. They trade with each other, share ideas, culture, and
technology.

Example:

You can eat pizza in India (Italian food), watch Korean dramas, use a phone made in
China, and talk to someone in America—all this is possible because of globalization.

2. Definition of Globalization by Anthony Giddens

His words:

➢ “Globalization is the intensification of worldwide social relations which link
distant localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events
occurring many miles away.”

Easy Explanation:

This means something that happens in one country can affect another country. For
example, if oil prices go up in the Middle East, petrol becomes expensive in India too.
So, we are all connected.

, 3. Types of Globalization (with examples and full explanation)

1. Economic Globalization:

Countries trade goods and services across borders. Companies open factories in other
countries.

Example: Apple makes iPhones in China and sells them globally.

2. Cultural Globalization:

Different cultures mix and spread across the world.

Example: McDonald’s is an American company but sells burgers in India with Indian
flavors. K-pop (Korean music) is famous worldwide.

3. Technological Globalization:

Technology spreads fast around the world.

Example: The internet was created in the USA but now people in every country use it.

4. Political Globalization:

Countries come together to make global rules.

Example: The United Nations helps solve world problems like wars or poverty.

5. Environmental Globalization:

All countries join hands to protect the Earth.

Example: The Paris Agreement is a deal where countries promise to reduce
pollution.

4. Core Features of Globalization

These are the main things that show globalization is happening:

,Free flow of goods, services, and money:

Countries buy and sell things across borders easily.

Multinational Companies (MNCs):

Big companies (like Google, Nike) work in many countries.

Technology sharing:

Inventions spread fast—like 5G, AI, electric cars.

People moving across borders:

People go to other countries to study, work, or travel.

Global Media:

News, movies, and shows are watched all over the world (Netflix, YouTube).

Cultural Exchange:

People mix their cultures—like eating sushi in India or dancing to Bollywood in the USA.

Global Supply Chains:

One product is made in many countries.

Example: A T-shirt may be designed in the USA, made in Bangladesh, and sold in
Europe.

Interdependence:

Countries now depend on each other for resources, jobs, trade, and peace.

, 5. Historical Phases of Globalization

1. Colonial Era:

Empires like the British traded with the world and spread their rule. This was the early
form of globalization.

2. After World War II:

New institutions were created like IMF, World Bank, and WTO to manage the world
economy.

3. 1990s Onwards:

After the Cold War, most countries opened their markets. The internet and mobile
technology made globalization grow even faster.

6. Causes of Globalization (With Simple Explanation)

1. Transport improvements:
