Educational Setting
The educational setting for this curriculum is third-grade Mathematics at a Title I
elementary school in the State of Delaware. This school has 100 percent free breakfast and
lunch. Around 50% of the students are minority students, and about 25% are English Language
Learners.
Curriculum Goal
The State of Delaware follows the Common Core State Standards. One of the most

of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7 (Council of Chief Officers, 2022. Pg. 23).
The curriculum goal I have chosen to address through my curriculum is to have students
take whole numbers and multiple using equal groups or an array. Multiplication is a huge part
of the third-grade math curriculum. They will use multiplication throughout third grade in
multi-step word problems and real-world problems. The curriculum model proposed is
Understanding by Design to reach this goal.
Curriculum Rationale
The rationale behind creating a curriculum that focuses on conceptual understanding
and problem solving is ideal for real-world situations and multi-step problems. The reason for
