PHYSICS
CH12-KINETIC THEORY OF GASES
ASSUMPTIONS:-
The molecules of given gas are identical but it is
different from the gases having different
properties.
The molecule of the gas are perfectly elastic,
rigid,having identical properties etc.
The molecular-size is negligible.
FREE PATH:-
Free path refers to the distance between two
successive collision.
The mean of all free path in a storage is known as
mean free path.
NOTE:-The number of collision per unit volume in a
gas remains constant
DEGREE OF FREEDOM:-
It refers to the number of direction a dynamic
system can move freely.it’s the number of
coordinates required to describe the position and
configuration of the system.
It is represented by the letter (f).
f=3N-R
, N-Number of particles in a molecule.
R-number of relations
TYPES OF DEGREE:-
Mono-atomic gas
Di-atomic gas
Tri-atomic gas
Mono-atomic gas:-
Unbonded single substance , generally gases is known as
mono-atomic gas.
f=3N-R
Eg:-Helium,Neon ,Argon etc.
f=3(1)-0
f=3
Here the value of N will be 1 and R will be 0 (total
no. Of relation is zero as it is mono-atomic.)
Dia-atomic gas:-
f=3N-R
Bonded with one atom together
f=3(2)-(1)
Overall,total 2 atoms will be bonded
f=5
togther.
Eg:-O2,H2,N2 etc.
Number of R will be 1 hear as it is bounded with 1 atom.
Tri-atomic gas:-
tri-atomic has two parts:-
Linear molecule
Non-linear molecule
