AMM3 Task 2: Curriculum Gap Analysis
January 5, 2025
A1: Discuss how well the attached “Curriculum Map” aligns to established Common
Core State Standards.
The Common Core Standards have been established to guide teachers, principals,
school districts, and state education departments to give a clear, logical, and sequential
content standard to support and align with educational goals and standards. The
Curriculum Map provides a succinct sequential guide to the Common Core Standards.
However, it is missing some of the 4th-grade math standards. The following standards
are missing from the Curriculum Map:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.OA.A.2
Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and
equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative
comparison from additive comparison.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.A.3
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
(Missing from the Curriculum Map, but is included in the Unit of Instruction, Day 1 Lesson Plan.)
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NF.B.4.C
Solve word problems involving multiplication of a fraction by a whole number, e.g., by using visual fraction
models and equations to represent the problem.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.3
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real-world and mathematical problems (Common
Core, 2005).
The missing standards in the Curriculum Map need to be addressed and corrected;
these are the standards and content students are expected to know for 4th-grade math
mastery and to support scaffolding for further learning as they progress through the
math curriculum in 4th grade and beyond.
A2: Discuss student performance (e.g. assessment) data as it relates to the standards
in the attached “Curriculum Map,” including identification of areas that could be
improved.
