TASK 1
(Passed First Attempt)
Western Governors University

, RUNNING HEAD TITLE 2
(SHORTENED)

A: Identification of Videos

For this paper, I selected three videos. Among the first videos I selected is determining

how media influences American culture and stereotypes in a twelfth-grade class. In the second video, a

sixth grade class developed drug awareness and resistance skills. In the last video, seventh graders

analyzed diverse media to clarify text.

B1: Effective Incorporation of Needs

In my first video, I talked about Aladdin and what they observed in the movie that could have

contributed to the opinion of someone about cultural norms or stereotypes. During the discussion, they

discussed how these movies could negatively portray someone's culture. Putting a negative view on

other people who aren't part of that culture in the movies gives them an unfair advantage when they

meet people who aren't part of that culture. These movies demonstrate a wide range but they pick one

stereotype from each culture that is not always accurate. In the real world, there are a lot of bad people,

and we can't just judge them by movies. As part of the second video, it discussed both social as well as

emotional needs. As students examined pictures of drugs and alcohol, they discussed what they thought

the picture meant. Once that exercise had been completed, they were asked what they would do

instead of taking drugs or alcohol. The students brainstormed alternative activities that address social or

emotional needs instead. It would help the kids feel better if they watched an emotional movie and then

hung out and socialized with friends. As they discussed with their classmates what they observed in the

book and bounced ideas off one another, the last video helped students with their social needs. As I

watched the last video, the students seemed very engaged by the story of the book, and they had a lot

to discuss because they compared it to so many different pieces of media. In groups, they had the

opportunity to interact with one another and share what they liked, or thought was different.

B2: Ineffective Incorporation of Needs
