TASK 4
(Passed First Attempt)
Western Governors University

, 2

B. 1: Demonstration of Dispositions and Ethics

As my first School of Education Professional Dispositions and Ethics topic, I will talk

about growth mindset. Before transferring to Western Governors University, I shadowed and observed

at different local schools. Having performed poorly in high school, I went into college with a very fixed

mindset that there was nothing I could learn because we only had so much knowledge. Initially, I

thought I didn't possess that knowledge and couldn't learn anything as a result. My performance in most

courses was better than I expected. The experience made me believe in a growth mindset because when

I walked around the classrooms in the schools, some students didn't get it or didn't think they could

grasp the concepts they needed to learn, which was not the case since you can master these concepts if

you work hard and keep trying. Putting in the effort and reviewing the material repeatedly can lead to

mastery of this concept that you once thought difficult. By offering extra feedback, you were able to

help students develop their abilities even further. Encouraging the students to keep trying was the goal.

Communication is the second School of Ethics Professional Disposition and Ethics that I will review. To

shadow or observe teachers, we had to stay in constant communication to determine when would work

for their schedules and mine. The professors didn't make the schedules; we were in charge of getting

our hours in, which required that we email the teachers we planned to observe. At the time, I observed

three different teachers, one in Chattanooga and two in Athens. Besides checking to see if they were

available, I also had to check if it was a good time and that I wasn't interfering with their learning. In the

schools, I talked to the teachers after the class and thanked them for letting me come and talked about

what I observed. I had to write to my professor about what I observed as well as communicate how I

was working with the other teachers. Communication was essential to passing the class, and I also

enjoyed my time there.
