, Task 1
1. Case Study 1
Event- Alder and Calla Wilde created an organic food company called Wilde's
Bramble to sell their products at local farmers’ markets. Eventually, restaurants and
stores were purchasing products from them. This increased the number of
buyers/customers.
Pattern- The increase in customers created a demand to produce more. They needed
to expand their company by leasing additional farmland, equipment, workers, and a
new barn. They relied on credit cards to pay for the costs since they could not afford
it otherwise. Calla had to seek employment away from the farm, and they had to get a
mortgage on their farm when there was pressure to pay for the increase in credit card
debt to keep the company afloat.
Structure- As the sales increased, new equipment and additional supplies were
acquired to meet the demand. Expenses were made on credit; therefore, increasing
sales raised the amount of credit used, and the finance charges overran the profit. In
Case Study 1, the pattern of cause and effect is observed as sales and profit rise, but
profit is short-lived as debt rises. In conclusion, Wilde’s Bramble did not have
enough funds to successfully take on expansion.
