ICS - Incident command system
command - To direct, order, or control by virtue of explicit statutory, regulatory, or
delegated authority
chain of command - Orderly line of authority within the ranks of the incident
management organization
transfer of command - The process by which the responsibility for incident command is
delegated from one Incident Commander to another
unity of command - Answer each person is responsible for only one assigned
supervisor, to whom they report on the scene of an incident
incident objectives - Answer objectives that are utilized to make sure everyone in the
ICS knows what must be done
incident objective priorities - Answer 1. life safety
2. incident stabilization
3. property preservation
Incident Action Plan (IAP)-an incident action plan that includes the incident objectives,
the actions to be taken, a specific time frame, identified roles and responsibilities, and
the resources to be used
operational period-the specific time period of an incident action plan
, resources-personnel, equipment, supplies
incident command post-an incident command post is the location from which the
Incident Commander directs all incident activities
staging area - Answer a temporary location where personnel and equipment are
collected while awaiting assignment
incident base - Answer the location at which primary logistics and administrative
functions are coordinated and administered
camp - Answer supplies sleeping, food, water, and sanitary services to incident
personnel
helibase - Answer a location from which helicopter-centered air operations are
conducted
helispot - A less permanent area established at the incident, where helicopters can
readily and safely land and take off elements of a briefing - Situation and incident
objectives, your specific job responsibilities, identification of ICS organization
assignment, location of your work area, how resources needed will be ordered,
operational periods, required safety procedures/personal protective equipment
span of control - Answer number of subordinates a supervisor has; should range fro 3-7
with 5 being optimal (or maybe 8-10 for a larger incident)
command - Answer Sets the incident objectives, strategies, and priorities and has
overall responsibility for the incident
operations - Answer Conducts operations to reach the incident objectives; establishes
tactics and directs all operational resources
planning - Answer Supports the incident action planning process by tracking resources,
collecting/analyzing information, and maintaining documentation
