Nur280 Comp Review- comp 1, comp 2, comp 3 1. Cane- place on strong side, move with weak 2. Tumor lysis- hyperkalemia; cloudy urine 3. Retinal detachment-dark floating spots ( pay attention to the eye they are asking) 4. Chest tube- bad if drainage is 100ml/hr 5. Diverticulosis- high fiber diet/ Diverticulitis- low fiber diet 6. 70/30- 70 NPH/30 regular insulin 7. Addison’s disease- hyperkalemia; hyponatremia and decreased blood glucose (not enough sugar, salt, sex) 8. TPN- always have 2 nurses check order; change tubing Q24HR 9. Urgent-can wait (multiple fx; 1+ pedal pulses) 10. Emergent-see NOW! (lung collapse, MI) 11. Abruptio placenta- no oxygen, painful 12. Intussusception- jelly-like stool; knee to chest position 13. Right side heart failure-JVD 14. Digoxin- increase K+ and decrease Calcium, green leafy veggies, bananas, sweet potatoes, avocados 15. Cath lab- 33% HCT is bad; 37 normal 16. A-fib- give CCB like diltiazem (very neat drugs) 17. Cardiac tamponade- decreased BP, JVD, muffled heart sounds with clear lungs 18. Pericarditis- JVD; lean forward if pain; pain on inspiration 19. Chest Pain reduced after one Nitro tab- give 2 nd dose 20. Discard used needles in coffee can or glass jar 21. HHS-give fluids 22. Grave’s disease and thyroid storm- report temp increase of 1 degree 23. HIT- on heparin one week 24. Blood can be hung max of 4hours 25. Smallest needle for blood is 20 gauge 26. Dumping syndrome- increased protein and lay down after meals 27. Lithium toxicity- priority does not need to limit sodium 28. Fidelity- keep commitments 29. IM injections- 5mL is too much for gluteal 30. CSF- check for halo, notify HCP 31. GCS- measures eye, verbal, and motor responses (15= the best outcome; 3= worst outcome) 32. Crying baby with cleft palate- swaddle, hold close and rock 33. Fever of unknown origin- does not need private room 34. Secondary prevention- breast exam 35. Below the knee amputation (BKA)- hypovolemic shock 36. Thoracentesis with elevated HR (90-110) – hypovolemic shock 37. Command hallucinations- needs more supervision (worst hallucination) 38. Priority patient with k+ of 2.4 39. Negative titer to measles and pregnant – gets MMR after delivery (only give immunization that aren’t live; no nasal influenza) 40. 45% burns follow up- v/o 145ml/8hr (4ml x % x kg)
