1. Overview of the Cardiovascular System
The cardiovascular system, also called the circulatory system, is essential for sustaining life. It
ensures that oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and other vital substances are transported
efficiently to all tissues of the body. At the same time, it removes metabolic wastes and
carbon dioxide to maintain cellular function. The system also plays a critical role in regulating
body temperature, maintaining pH balance, controlling fluid and electrolyte distribution, and
providing protection against infections through immune cells and clotting mechanisms.
