Amillennialism - ANSWER Held by most theologians since Augustine. Millennium
described in Rev. 20:4 - 6 is happening presently and spiritually either through Christ's
reign at God's right hand or through the righteousness of the church. Adherents deny a
literal earthly kingdom after his return- single resurrection of righteous and wicked for
reward and punishment
Antinomianism - ANSWER "Against" (Anti) "Law" (nomos). The idea Christians are freed
from obeying God's commands by virtue of the grace available in Jesus.
Apostolic Fathers - ANSWER Persons in church history who form the first generation of
church leaders after the apostles; directly and indirectly associated with them.
Baptism - ANSWER Water baptism is an ordinance and therefore mark of the church in
which water is applied as a symbol of identification with Christ and by extension with the
community of the faithful.
Biblical Authority - ANSWER All matters of faith and practice rests in Scripture alone.

Church Invisible - ANSWER Body of all believers, united to Chrsit by the ministry of the
Holy Spirit; the elect known only by God. All believers are part of the invisible church.
Church local - ANSWER Wherever we see a group of believers with leadership will to
accept all biblically affirmed responsibilities for spiritual care and feeding of that group.

Specific body of believers
Church visible - ANSWER Body of church members professing faith in Christ. Not all
members of the visible are necessarily members of the invisible church.
Counciliar Authority - ANSWER Final doctrinal and practical authority rests with a duly
called council of church's bishops each of who hold equal authority. (Eastern Orthodox
Church). Views the creeds and acts of the 7 ecumenical councils (4-8 centuries) as
binding and authoritative. Scripture is interpreted by the HS through the councils.
Congregationalism - ANSWER Church government in which local assembly recognizes
, no authority above the assembly (& Christ). Assembly holds the authority. Authority is
delegated to minsters and elders.
Consubstantiation - ANSWER Luther's view. At communion Christ's actual body and
blood are mysteriously present with the elements of bread and wine. (over and under).
The elements are not changed in essence.
Council of Trent - ANSWER (1545 - 1563) Catholic Bishops shaped Rome's response to
the Reformation. Condemning Protestant abuses of Roman Catholic doctrines
Covenant Theology - ANSWER theological system using the principle of divine
covenants as its organizational motif.
Denomination - ANSWER Officially recognized of churches, usually with an authority
structure beyond the local church.
Dispensationalism - ANSWER A theological system built around dispensations - time
periods during which God established different regulations governing human behaviour.
Dispensations - ANSWER Means by which God administers his governance of humanity
through out history.

Ecumenical - ANSWER Greek "the inhabited world." Originally meant the church
catholic, recently means interdenomnational and can sometimes be applied to interfaith
cooperation with divergent religions.
Episcopalianism - ANSWER Church government characterized by a hierarchy of
bishops.
Evangelicalism - ANSWER Emphasizes a personal relationship with God through person
and work of Christ, inerrancy of Scripture as final authority on faith and practice, seeks
to reach the world through evangelism and missions.
Holiness Tradition - ANSWER That part of the Wesleyan movement that emphasizes
doctrine of entire sanctification in this life.
Justification - ANSWER God's forensic (legal) declaration that a person is acceptable in
His sight.
Lord's Supper - ANSWER Ordinance/ Sacrament; ongoing commitment to a community
of believers done in remembrance of Christ.
