Training Needs Assessment
A1. I would assess the furniture company’s training needs by reviewing the 3 main
components: the organization, the jobs, and the employees. I would start by reviewing
our company’s overall vision and the goals set forth by executive leadership. The
training and development initiatives for the new floor agents will need to properly align
with the culture and support the needs of the organization. This will also help to cut
down on potential resources or time being wasted on misaligned training programs. A
SWOT analysis will also need to be performed to ensure the proper training needed and
it's appropriate fit for the company. A SWOT analysis would also be executed regularly
to monitor progress after the initiation of the new training programs.
Next, I would perform a job analysis by interviewing management in charge of
overseeing current floor agents. I would inquire about current needs and tasks
performed for the position, as well as any skills necessary to successfully carry out the
role of a floor agent. I would review data on sales and use this information to form a
focus group consisting of the company’s top performing floor agents. In the focus group
we will discuss necessary functions of the job, skills and strategies used by each agent
to perform at such a high standard, and gathering feedback regarding the training they
received when they were onboarded. This information is essential to updating the floor
agent job description appropriately.
Lastly, considering the large volume of new floor agents, I would send out a written
questionnaire to each new employee inquiring about their current skills and mastery to
make sure the newly developed training program will address everything necessary and
is appropriate for new agents. I will implement the information gained from our current
floor agents and management to develop the new training and development program
and then the information collected from the new floor agents to ensure that the program
I have developed is appropriate and sufficient.
