Purpose: The Company Law group project has a few objectives:
1. Exploring a topic that is interesting to you-if done correctly, this project can provide a meaningful learning experience that
may assist you as you consider future academic and professional goals;
2. Developing critical thinking and analysis skills;
3. Improving your oral and written communication skills (e.g., communicating with team members, high-quality written work);
4. Honing your ability to work as a team, which will be important in almost any professional role; and
5. Generating a sense of ownership over your learning as you “manage” your project.
Topic: The topic may be anything that is related to company law, which is intentionally broad. I have included a non-exhaustive list
of examples below. Those ideas are there to help you just get thinking about a topic, and there are certainly other good topics that
are not on the list. Please pick one that appeals to you/your group.
Once your group decides on a topic, you must submit it to me for approval. Initially, we can discuss before/after class or another
time if necessary. Additionally, you can possibly email as well. This approval process is to help ensure that you are thinking about the
project correctly and for me to possibly give you some suggestions. I am also happy to discuss possible ideas if you are having
problems selecting a topic.
Deliverable: Your group will be required to submit a professional document that is likely going to be around five (5) – six (6) pages
of text, not including any materials in an appendix (which is optional) or reference list. As mentioned in class, you want to take the
perspective of answering a client query like you might receive if working for a professional services firm. Thus, the format will likely
not take the form of a research paper, but more a memo, an investment research report, maybe even a business plan, etc...
Basically, the topic you pick should drive the format you use.
You must cite your sources. I do not care what citation style you use as long as it is clear what source is being cited. I do not care if
the paper is single or double spaced. Please do not include a cover page. You may use tables, charts, etc…but if excessive, please
just put in an appendix. No need to go overboard with an appendix, remember to keep the document professional.
The deadline for submitting the assignment is 11:59 PM, Sunday, December 7, 2025. Your group, however, may submit its group
project any time before then (i.e., no need to wait if you want to get it done earlier in the semester). If the paper is late, there will
be a letter grade penalty for each late day (e.g., B+ to B for one late day, B+ to B- for two late days, etc…). The paper should be
submitted using the Turnitin link on our course Moodle page. Please put only the university ID of each group member on the first
