The Information Technology Field
IT Disciplines.
Computer science is a discipline that involves the study of designing and understanding
computers as well as the associated computational processes (Kecheng Liu, 2009). The discipline
relates to the other ones in that for each of the other disciplines, the pursuer has to have a basic
understanding of computing and programming. Information systems are classifications of data,
people, and practices that allow for data processing in an organization (Kecheng Liu, 2009). The
data systems also include automated processes and manuals of the organization (Kecheng Liu,
2009). This discipline is similar to Information technology only that there is coverage of a
broader spectrum of units when studying information systems including business. Engineering is
the application of scientific and mathematical theories and principles in the research and
development of technical problems to create an economical solution (Kecheng Liu, 2009).
Information technology is a set of aptitudes that are availed to organizations via computers,
software programs along with telecommunications (Kecheng Liu, 2009). The three mediums are
used for information delivery and communication to both individuals and processes within the
organization (Kecheng Liu, 2009).
Roles and careers related to these disciplines
Computers science
Software engineer. It involves developing new software programs and developing
new updates for already existing software (Indeed, 2020a).
