PART 1: THE STRATEGY (Read This
First)
1. The "Secret" Course Theme
This entire course is built around one question: "Why do you need to eat?".
● The Hack: Don't just memorize definitions. Connect everything back to food.
○ Unit 1: What is food made of? (Macromolecules).
○ Unit 2: How do we turn food into energy? (Respiration).
○ Unit 3 & 4: How does that energy power our DNA and cell division?
● Exam Tip: If you get stuck on a "Big Picture" exam question, ask yourself: "How does
this relate to energy or food?"
2. The "Practice Exam" Loophole
Your syllabus states that Practice Exams have 2 attempts and the second attempt "will show
you only the questions you answered incorrectly". These exams count for 15% of your grade.
The Strategy:
1. Attempt 1: Take it early (4 days before the exam) without notes. Treat it like the real
thing.
2. The Audit: Write down every topic you missed.
3. The Pause: Do NOT take Attempt 2 immediately.
4. The Study: Use this guide to target only those weak topics.
5. Attempt 2: Take it the day before the exam to boost your confidence and secure that
easy 100%.
○ Warning: The syllabus warns that practice exams are not comprehensive. Do
not rely on them alone—use the notes below!
, PART 2: THE CONTENT BREAKDOWN
(Unit by Unit)
UNIT 1: CELLULAR STRUCTURE & FUNCTION
Modules: 1 (Biology of You), 2 (Plasma Membrane), 3 (Cell Structures).
The Hook: We eat to build structures. What are we building?
Module 1: Macromolecules (The Building Blocks)
● Must-Watch Video: Amoeba Sisters - Biomolecules
● Deep Dive:
○ Carbohydrates: Look for "Glycosidic Linkages." Function: Immediate Energy
(Glucose).
○ Lipids: Look for "Ester Linkages." Note that they are Hydrophobic (fear water).
This is CRITICAL for Module 2.
○ Proteins: The workers. Look for "Peptide Bonds." Structure = Function. If you
heat them (fever), they denature (unfold) and stop working.
○ Nucleic Acids: DNA/RNA. Look for "Phosphodiester Bonds."
Module 2: The Plasma Membrane (The Gatekeeper)
● Must-Watch Video: CrashCourse Biology - Membranes
