Federalism and Decentralisation in India.
Federalism in India Federalism is a system of government in which powers are divided between the central government and state governments to ensure smooth administration of a country. In this system, each level of government has its own jurisdiction, but all work together for the welfare of citizens. India follows a holding-together form of federalism, where the Constitution clearly distributes powers through the Union List, State List and Concurrent List. The judiciary plays an important role in resolving disputes between the centre and states. To strengthen democracy, power has also been decentralised to local governments through Panchayats and Municipalities under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments. Federalism helps maintain unity in diversity, encourages cooperation among governments and ensures effective governance in a large and diverse country like India.
