Hepatitis: inflammation of the liver caused by viral pathogen (often RNA virus)
Assessment: lethargy, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, diarrhea or constipation, malaise,
fatigue, jaundice, flu-like symptoms, RUQ tenderness; lasts 3-8 days & highly contagious
Risk Factors:
alcohol
medications
chemicals
autoimmune diseases
metabolic problems
Dx: antibody testing (blood culture)
Planning: have relief of discomfort, be able to resume normal activities, return to normal liver
function without complications
Interventions:
Well-balanced diet
Vitamin supplements (B complex and vitamin K)
If severe anorexia, nausea, and vomitingg IV glucose solutions or supplemental enteral
nutrition
Fluid and electrolyte balance must be maintained
Evaluation:
Maintain food and fluid intake adequately to meet nutrition needs
Avoid alcohol and other hepatotoxic agents
Show gradual increase in activity tolerance
Perform daily activities with scheduled rest periods
