Task B: street food is becoming more popular in this country and can be found not only at
organised events but increasingly in the streets of our towns and cities. Research, prepare
and cook 3 dishes (and accompaniments, if appropriate) that demonstrate your technical
skills and show the best of Street food in Britain at an event of your choice.
Section A: Research
Introduction
Firstly, I am going to research what street foods are and what people would usually buy if
they were to go to a street food market. I have also done a questionnaire so that I would
know what people would eat and so that I would make something similar in my final dish to
what they have chosen. I also went to a street market to find out what food is common for
people to buy and eat.
Street food is a ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a vendor in a street or a public place. It is
often sold from a portable food booth, food cart or tuck meant for immediate consumption.
It has low cost and is cheaper than restaurant meals which is an advantage for people who
don't want to pay a lot of money. Street food is mainly finger food which is good for when
eating on the go and is not difficult to eat. Street food started in Asia, it’s now very common
in Europe and is massive in America.
Street food is eaten at markets, special events or at food festivals. Street food vendors pop
up around the country serving different kinds of cultural foods which everyone can enjoy
with great flavour combinations.
I went to Camden Market to see which foods would be reasonable to make and what foods
are most popular to buy and eat. When I went there I found out that Middle-Eastern food
and South American foods are the foods that people would most likely buy. This would help
me for my final dishes as I would know what dish I could make.
