Thesis Statement: While there may only be two boxes to check for the birth of a new baby, there
should be an option for a third, non-binary gender on a birth certificate. Many children do not identify as
their assigned gender at birth, this can cause low self-esteem when children do not fit in with others or
when they do not feel as though they belong the bathroom of their birth assigned gender. This lasting
impact starts with a simple change, a third unassigned gender option on the birth certificate.
, A new life emerges into the world, so pure and innocent. But, what is the baby? In a culture that
lives, and dies based on the application of labels, what goes on the birth certificate? Boy? Girl?
Something else? It is time for humanity to open our minds and allow for a third gender on birth
certificates.

definitions and dictionary definitions of the terms used. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary
