MOTION AND MEASUREMENT OF
DISTANCES
Motion and its types
Motion- motion is the change in the position of an object with time .
There are three types of motions
Rectilinear motion
It is a type of motion where the object moves along a straight line , eg , vehicle on a
straight road, the falling of a stone .
Circular motion
Objects move along a circular path, for example, plate of an electric fan or the hands of
a clock.
Periodic motion
Object repeats its motion after sometime or moves to and fro for example, a
pendulum, the motion of a child swing or the strings of a guitar.
Means of transport
In ancient times people used different means of transport to travel from one place to
another. They used to move on foot later they started using animals for transportation.
Later, they designed boats of streamline shapes while imitating the shapes of animals
living in the water. They invented the wheels and animals were used to pull cards as
they moved on wheels . The streamline shape of the boat made it easier to travel in
water.
