Labour party stands for:

 Rights matched by responsibilities

Liberal Democrats party stands for:

 A fair but firm immigration system
 Lower waiting times in healthcare


Conservative party stands for:

 Helping hard working people
 Rewarding hard work
 Getting immigration under control
 Fixing the economy
 Keeping the streets safe

,The parliament can be divided in:

The house of lords:

 This is the Upper Chamber but the one with less authority.
 800 active members
 Members inherited their position

Its main roles are:

- Revising legislation
- Check Government by examining its activities

The house of commons

 This Is the Lower Chamber, it has the most authority
 650 members of Parliament. (also known as MP)
 Elected by the British people

Its main roles are:

- Consider and propose new laws
- Asking questions about current issues, either in the commons chamber or in committees
- Debate issues of the day
- Each member represents a geographical constituency



Additional:

 Hung parliament is when there is no party with a definite majority in the elections
 A men named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the parliament on November the 5th
 Conservative MP David Ashby shared hotel beds with other men (1994) because there were no
other beds available
 The Prime minister meets Queen Elizabeth II once a week
 Women got the right to vote in 1928
 Stephen Fry had send an open letter to the prime minister to boycott Russian Winter Olympics

 Famous for his two finger victory salute, he was an inspiration to many
 Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with the lend- lease act in 1941
 He belonged to ‘the big three’ Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin
 Held his famous ‘Iron Curtain’ speech on 5 march, 1946
(about the cold war with the Soviet Union)
 He was the lion who roared when the British empire needed him he most
 Died of a stroke and is the only prime minister who won a Nobel prize.
 Famous for his quote ‘I may be drunk miss, but in the morning I will be sober and
you will still be ugly.

 The first and only female prime minister of Great Britain.
 She won her first election campaign in 1959, she won the seat of Finchley in London. (She held
the position until her retirement in 1992)
 Called the Iron Lady, for personal and political toughness. (1976 – In a speech, she lashes out
against Communism. This causes the Soviet press to nickname her the “Iron Lady”.)
 During her time as prime minister, she emphasized the rights of the individual versus that of the
state, moral absolutism and nationalism.
 In her first term, Thatcher reduced or eliminated many government subsidies to business, a
move that lead to a sharp rise in unemployment. By 1986, unemployment had reached 3 million.
 Won 3 elections 1979, 1983 and 1987
