lab Questions
1. How do the intake of nutrients and expenditure of energy relate to a metabolic level?
The amount of energy the body needs in order to maintain homeostasis is called the
metabolic rate or level. Energy making processes, or metabolism involves the various steps
that make up the process of transforming food into energy that is utilised by the body in
various ways. Expenditure of nutrients in the form of energy should ideally equal intake in
order to keep a body in its current state. The greater the metabolic rate, the greater the
energy expenditure and the amount of nutrients one needs to take in. Basal metabolic rate,
physical activity, age, sex, and general health determine just how much energy a person
needs to burn, and nutrients provide the body with what it needs to function properly.
2. Do you think you take in more calories than you burn in a day? Why or why not?
Since my weight has remained relatively stable over the last month, I believe that I am now
taking in approximately the same number of calories as I expend every day. I have a good
sense of what I currently weigh because I weigh myself nearly every morning. If my daily
caloric intake exceeded my daily caloric expenditure, then over time, the adipose tissue
would start to build up. Apart from this, for the last one month at least, I have not
experienced a reduction in body weight, which should have been a consequence of a caloric
expenditure greater than caloric intake.

EXPERIMENT 1: TRACKING YOUR NUTRITION
Introduction Questions
1. State the method(s) you will use to track your nutrition of the three day period required by
the experimental procedure. If you will use a website to track your nutrition, state which
site you will use. If you will build a spreadsheet or keep a written log, state what
information you will record. Your chosen method should relate logically to the data you
obtain and the analysis you conduct in the following sections.
I want to monitor food intake and physical activities on myfitnesspal.com or on its mobile
application. The different things I will be able to put onto this website/app is weight,
hydration intake, nutrition intake, activity, and it will be able to give me summaries for
different days to look at. Other than organized categories on the site for diet and exercise
related notes, one is allowed to write his or her own notes
