Case Study

1. Describe the clinical manifestations present in Mrs. J.

Mrs. J presents an array of serious illnesses that are likely to jeopardize and suppress her

immunity. From the case scenario presented, it is highly likely that the patient is suffering from

influenza. Categorically, the patient, 63 years of age, suffer from underlying chronic ailments,

for instance, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure. According

to a report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, old age and diseases like heart

failure are the epidemiological risk factors for contracting influenza (Center for Disease Control

and Prevention, n.d). The diseases are critical in undermining the immune system of a victim,

leading to exposure to other ailments. To further confirm this inference, Mr. J exhibits malaise,

causing her significant discomfort. The victim is not sure of her state and even thinks of dying.

The patient exhibits nausea and fever. She also reports getting minimal air and exhaustion. The

elements are profound and important symptoms of influenza.

2. Discuss whether the nursing interventions at the time of her admissions were

appropriate for Mrs. J. and explain the rationale for each of the medications listed.

From the case scenario, it is clear that Mrs. J failed to take her antihypertensive drugs for

three days. Additionally, despite her exacerbating situation, the patient remains persistent with

smoking two packets per day. The practice only exposes the patient to higher risks and even

death. For this reason, the administration of Lasix, Vasotec, Lopressor, and Morphine are

imperative in averting the risk of heart attacks. Characteristically, these drugs are referred to as

diuretics. According to Ellis (2019), diuretic medicines are integral in maintaining stability

amongst patients with heart-related ailments. The drugs minimize the amount of fluids in blood
