Case Study: Mr. M
The health and wellness of populations are critical in contemporary society. However, it
is imperative to note that the contraction of certain diseases is an inevitable aspect despite the
protective interventions made by populations to lead an appropriate lifestyle. For this reason, it is
imperative for healthcare officials, especially nurse practitioners, to execute proper modalities to
ensure the sustenance of health within patients. Starting with proper diagnostic modalities, the
implementation of pharmacological interventions, coupled with therapeutic strategies is
imperative when handling patients. The paper assesses the situation of a 70-year old Mr. M from
a case study in the quest to identify his condition and other underlying issues.
Clinical Manifestation of Mr. M
From the case study, a 70-year old Mr. M lives within an assisted facility and is likely to
be suffering from Alzheimer's disease. According to a report by the Alzheimer's Association
(2018), Alzheimer's syndrome is characterized by forgetfulness. The observation is derived from
the fact that he exhibits trouble remembering the names of his family members and his room
number. The patient also has issues in recalling what he reads after a short time. Mr. M appears
to be agitated and fearful and has become fully dependent on numerous daily activities like
bathing and dressing. Mr. M is also highly anxious, a factor that may be attributed to a heart rate
of 98 beats per minute. Objective data indicates a BP of 123/78, a temperature of 37.1 degrees,
an elevated respiration rate of 22, and oximetry of 99% at room temperature. Besides, the patient
also has a blood count of 19.2 (1000uL) and lymphocytes measuring 600 (cell/uL). It is prudent
to state that Mr. M suffers from a urinary tract infection due to the irregular figures from
laboratory results, for instance, protein 7.1g/dL, ALT 29 u/L, and AST 32u/L. The presence of a
urinary infection is evident due to the cloudy urine.
