The occupational Safety and Health Act 2007 is the regislation that covers health and safety measures in Kenya
regarding work.
Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS)
The mandate is to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007 and
promote safety and health of workers.
The mission statement is to promote a safe and health workplace by implementing effective systems for the
prevention of occupational diseases, ill health accidents and damage to property in order to reduce the cost of
production and improve productivity in all sectors or our economic activities.
Roles of DOSHS
• Workplace inspection to ensure adherence to health and safety.
• Examination of workplace pollutants for mitigation purposes.
• Investigation of occupational diseases and accidents for mitigation purposes.
• Medical examination of workers.
• Education on safety and health, first aid and fire safety.
• Approving plans of facilities intended to be used as workplaces.

Registering a workplace
This is to ensure compliance with the OSHA 2007 Act. The law requires the owner to register with DOSHS and
pay an annual renewable prescribed fee. A certificate of registration will be processed and issued to the owner
if approved.
