, CAPSTONE STUDY GUIDE EXAM 1
TYPES OF BURNS
First Degree burns- Erythema , blanching, pain
Superficial burns- partial thickness, area is red no blisters are present.
Full thickness burns- pale, dry, leathery skin, painless due to nerve destruction
Deep Partial thickness burns- erythema, swelling, blisters
Hypovolemia= LOW BLOOD PRESSURE
Bone Marrow- Taken from the illiac crest
Advise patient that they must lay on their side for an extended amount of time.
With any biopsy think of the potential for infection.
ABG’S
PH 7.35- 7.45 (under 7.35 is acidic over 7.45 is alkalotic)
PACo2 35-45 (under 35 is alkalotic over 45 is acidic)
HCO3 22-26 (under 22 is acidic over 26 is alkalotic) (Kidneys)
Hyperventilating patient is having respiratory alkalosis patients may feel they
are suffocating.
Kidney dysfunction- Respiratory acidosis Dr may prescribe sodium Bicarb to
help kidney function.
Remember (Respiratory Alkalosis is Lungs) Tachypnea breathing too fast
pushes Carbon Dioxide out and PH increases. PACO2 decreased to less than
35. Kidneys try to compensate patient will urinate bicarb out. If PH is
abnormal its partially compensated. If it is normal its Fully compensated
