ü Before you begin, read the instructions and notes on the assignment platform and the relevant
section of Advice on Approaching this Assignment.
First Activity
a) A dictionary activity, for vocabulary and dictionary skills development AFTER the class
have read or listened to your selected text.
This could be used later in the same lesson or in another lesson. You can use the vocabulary
items you have selected for pre-teaching or make a different selection. The vocabulary must be
from the text or clearly relevant to the text.
Name of Activity Absurd Word Search
Time 15 minutes
A warmer exercise which allows students to practice meaning, form and
Aims pronunciation in a fun way, as well as refine their language and
vocabulary skills.
v Divide students into groups of 3.
v Give each group an obscure word to look up in the dictionary.
v Groups write down correct definition, as well as one false/obscure
definition.
Teacher’s Instructions
v Teacher collects all dictionaries and papers; and reads the
definitions aloud.
v Students vote on which one they think is the real definition.
v Points awarded to each group that votes for the correct definition.
v 5-word cards

v Pen and paper
