Document how much there is and the color and consistency.
Rubra-bright red, fresh blood.
Serosa-pink, fluid, serous
Alba-beige discharge
Bleeding more than 1 pad an hour, that's not good
Different types of decelerations on a strip
Give this one a try later!
, Variable deceleration--cord compression
Early deceleration--starts an ends with the contractions. Caused by head
compression
Late deceleration--uteroplacental insufficiency. The accelerations are
following after the contraction. Stop pitocin, give O2, give fluids, change
position. If mom is not recovering, do a C-Section.
CST. (contraction stress test)
GDM
Give this one a try later!
gestational diabetes mellitus
Glucose Tolerance Test. 1 hour and then 3 hour.
Nutrition. Insulin. Oral meds (Metformin, Glucophage)
Macrosomia (Big baby because of all the sugar going to it and not the
insulin)
Increased bleeding during delivery, should dystocia (dislocated shoulder)--
>clavicle injury/dislocation, vagina tearing, bruising/brain injury from using
forceps or vacuum--> higher risk for jaundice.
C-Section.
Control the diabetes and a lot of these would be eliminated.
RF's: obesity, lifestyle, bad diet, previous GDM, multiple babies at once, or
has just had a lot of babies before, still born (because they'd not catch the
GDM), macrosomia.
If mom is controlling her sugar--> hypoglycemia for the baby because after
delivery, they are not getting sugar anymore, just making a ton of insulin.
Give them formula/ but breastfeeding is preferred.
Preterm baby, clavicle fractures--> worried about nerve, bc loss of ability
