LISTENING SET 1
PART 1 – TRANSCRIPT (Audio Description)
Context: A student, Emma, is calling the university accommodation office to enquire about on-campus
housing options for the coming academic year. The officer, Mr. Stevens, answers her questions.
[Recording begins]
Mr. Stevens: Good morning, Westfield University Accommodation Office, Mr. Stevens speaking. How
can I help you?
Emma: Good morning. My name is Emma Clarke. I'm a second-year student, and I'm looking to move
into university accommodation for next year.
Mr. Stevens: Of course, Emma. We have several options. Are you interested in a single room with a
shared bathroom, or would you prefer an en-suite?
Emma: I'd prefer an en-suite if possible. Could you also tell me about the monthly costs?
Mr. Stevens: Certainly. Our en-suite rooms in Maple Hall are £680 per month, which includes all
utilities — that's electricity, water and internet. The standard rooms in Pine Block are £495 per month.
Emma: And are meals included?
Mr. Stevens: No, meals are separate. However, we do offer a meal plan — the Bronze plan is £85 per
week and covers 14 meals. The Silver plan is £120 per week and is unlimited.
Emma: What about the application deadline? I don't want to miss it.
Mr. Stevens: The deadline for returning students is the 15th of March. You'll need to complete the
online form and pay a holding deposit of £150.
Emma: Is there a gym or any sports facility on site?

, Mr. Stevens: Yes! The Sports Centre is available to all accommodation residents free of charge. It has
a swimming pool, weights room, and tennis courts. It's open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Emma: Wonderful. What documents do I need to submit with my application?
Mr. Stevens: You'll need your student ID, proof of enrolment for next year, and a completed medical
form. If you have any dietary requirements, there's a separate dietary preferences form available on the
website.
