Process Innovation Strategy Worksheet
Is a detailed action plan where you design the "how" behind your solution for the
Chinle Service Unit (CSU)
Instructions:
In keeping with step 5 of McKenzie & Pinger's six-step model described in An
Introduction to Community & Public Health, you must select a focus for your
process innovation based on the information gathered so far. This focus will
provide the first criterion for narrowing process innovation options. Use this
worksheet to decide which process innovation might be the most successful in
Chinle.
1. Formulate process innovation options. Describe your purpose for
the process innovation and the reason for selecting it. Refer to the
"Community Needs Assessment Worksheet" and the Chinle Service Unit
Profile provided in the course to inform your answer. Enter your response
below.
The purpose of this process innovation is to empower the Chinle community to make more
conscious health decisions and allow them the confidence to improve their lifestyle
choices. This innovation strategy must support lowering obesity rates, inhibiting the
development of chronic disease, educating the community, providing them with easily
accessible resources, and improving their health outcomes.
2. Describe three process innovations. Describe three options for
improving the healthcare delivery process for addressing obesity issues in
Chinle. Draw on the case studies provided in the course to find ideas. Use
the "Five Imperatives for Improving Healthcare" resource provided in the
course to select high-impact approaches. Use Health care disruption:
Thinking broadly about regulation and innovation provided in the course to
direct your innovations toward creating a culture of innovation and using
ideas from other industries. Enter your response below.
1. Emphasis on nutrition- This program will work to establish an
improvement in Chinle community members’ dietary habits. Involvement
from community nutrition coaches, leaders of local Navajo communities,
and Canyon de Chelly Comprehensive Health Services Inc. will be
imperative to the success of this program. Not only will these individuals
have a hand in preserving cultural impacts and practices, but they will
also be able to offer helpful advice, innovation suggestions, and other
various supports the project may need (Chinle Service Unit Profile,
n.d.). Promoting improved nutrition by providing weekly workshops and
establishing incentive programs (ex: discounts to local grocery stores
that may only be used in purchasing more nutritional foods/produce)
throughout the community will help to encourage healthier eating
habits and help lower rising rates of obesity rates and chronic disease
development.
2. Emphasis on education- Educating the community and focusing
on proper teaching methods to ensure program success and
implementation is imperative. Developing educational resources will
, help to ensure that the Chinle community thoroughly understands
this innovative program and will help to oversee feelings of confidence
and trust. Focusing on adolescent populations throughout the
community and establishing active learning
