D372 Systems Thinking - Case Study On Homelessness & Quick Fixes | Questions

And Answers, Latest Update | 100% Correct Answers | Graded

D372 - Systems Thinking

Task 2

Case Study #1

I selected the “fixes that fail” from Case Study 1 on homelessness in Middlesex County.
The county faces an ongoing homelessness problem, so they set up a temporary
shelter as a quick fix, like putting a band-aid on a wound. While this shelter hides
homeless people from public view for a while, it doesn't deal with why people are
homeless in the first place. Which really doesn’t end up solving the root cause of the
issue nor does it make a permanent solution. It really only creates new problems such
as shelters getting too full and always needing more land for setting up temporary
shelters.

The county's solution is like a quick fix for a bigger issue: why people end up homeless.
They should focus more on giving homeless folks affordable housing so they can start
fresh. It's important to also help them find steady jobs to keep their homes, instead of
relying on temporary shelters.

When people stay in temporary shelters, they often end up homeless again when their
time is up. It keeps happening over and over. Instead, the government should focus on
giving affordable housing to stop this cycle and avoid making the same mistakes.
Affordable housing can give a long-lasting solution and stop the cycle of homelessness.
Also, helping these folks find jobs or get education through non-profit groups can help
them get back on track and keep their homes for good.
