Standardization of NaOH with a KHP solution: Acid Base Titration.
Purpose: To apply principle of titration to accurately quantify concentration of a strong base solution
(NaOH).
Procedure:
1. Retrieve the KHP, 1MNaOH solution, and the phenolphthalein solution from the stockroom.
2. Note the Note the volume of KHP used.
3.Get a pipette and a 50 mL burette.
4.Use the pipette to add a small amount (0.3 mL) of indicator to the KHP solution.
5.Fill the burette with around 50 mL NaOH solution.
6. Titrate small volumes of NaOH (0.5 mL or less) from the burette in to the KHP until a slight
colour change occurs. Note the volume of NaOH used from the initial and final readings on
the burette.
