Team Dynamics – D577
Task 2
Part A.
1. The two specific techniques I used during the meeting were active
listening and maintaining eye contact.
a. Using active listening can help build trust with the team
because you show support by listening to what they are saying,
making them feel that they are being heard. It will make them
feel valued and important. Active listening is necessary to build
team rapport (Prignano et al., 2024). As a leader, paying
attention to each team member by showing interest and
providing feedback can strengthen trust and improve
communication.
b. Maintaining eye contact would be another technique that is part
of active listening. Eye contact shows others that you can be
trusted because you are establishing a connection with each
other. Looking away while a team member discusses concerns
portrays a negative atmosphere and could lead to conflicts. Eye
contact promotes active listening as well as empathy.
2. Communication Approach
• Kay – Kay was very outspoken and spoke of her concerns more
than her colleagues. I was not expecting her to have so many
concerns, so I had to remain calm. One strategy I used is active
listening. I listened to her closely and paid attention to what
she was saying. I responded with nods, asked questions, and
provided feedback.
• Bo – During the discussion, Bo did not talk much. She only
voiced her concern when Kay and Michael opposed working in
an office instead of remotely. Bo did not use too much eye

, contact; she kept looking at other things besides the speaker or
listener. In the discussion, I included her so she would not feel
that I was not disregarding her opinions.
• Michael – I approached Michael with empathy. I understood
his concerns about coming to work in the office. He seemed
very anxious while speaking, so I had to remain calm and listen
quietly. Michael constantly repeated his statement and kept
stuttering. It seemed this bothered him more than the others.
