Increased risk of COVID-19 transmission among Saint Louis County, Missouri related to a
knowledge deficit of proper prevention techniques as demonstrated by an alarming increase of
COVID-19 cases.
(B1) Health Inequity/Disparity
Saint Louis County, Missouri is a relatively large county. Saint Louis County is home to
approximately 993,191 residents (St. Louis County, Missouri Population 2020). During my
community assessment, I noticed several disparities that are affecting the rapidly increasing
number of positive COVID-19 cases. The biggest disparity I have followed is the lack of wearing
proper protective gear when out in public. I witnessed several instances of individuals stopping
at the door of a store, glancing at the sign saying masks are required, and they would proceed to
enter the store without a mask. This type of behavior not only puts the person without a mask at
risk, but this individual could be unknowingly spreading COVID-19 throughout the community.
In addition to not wearing a mask, many individuals are not wearing their masks properly. I
witnessed people wearing masks covering only their mouth but leaving their nose exposed. I
