No taenia coli, sacculations, appendices

Lower part is dilated to form the rectal ampulla

Shows lateral and antero-posterior curvatures

a) Sacral flexure - due to concavity of
sacrum and coccyx.
b) Perineal flexure - due to backward bend
at the anorectal junction.
