, QUESTION 1

After introducing trained non-lawyers to perform routine legal tasks, the Kansas law
firm experienced two major advantages.

First, the firm reduced its operational costs and was able to offer legal services at
lower prices. Routine tasks such as document preparation, form completion and
basic legal advice do not always require the expertise of a fully qualified attorney. By
delegating these tasks to trained non-lawyers, the firm lowered salary expenses and
improved efficiency. As a result, clients who previously could not afford legal

freed from time-consuming routine work and could focus on more complex legal
matters that required specialised knowledge and professional judgment. This better
use of skills improved turnaround times and allowed the firm to serve more clients. In
short, the introduction of trained non-lawyers improved both efficiency and
accessibility.

culturally relevant. People do not need legal representation or complex procedures
to be heard.

The second characteristic is the focus on reconciliation and restoration rather than
punishment. Traditional justice systems aim to restore harmony between individuals
and within the community. Solutions often involve compensation, apology or
