WGU VLN1 TASK 2: ETHICAL GUIDANCE AND AI BIAS IMPACTS | 2026 UPDATE |
100% CORRECT
VLN1 — VLN1 Task 2:
Ethical Guidance and
Behaviors
A. Explain how professional codes of ethics guide behavior. Include two ways they benefit a
profession.
A professional code of ethics provides a framework that can be used to navigate complex and/or
small situations within a profession. They guide behavior by helping to establish clear
expectations for conduct. Adhering to a professional code of conduct benefits the professional by
allowing trust to be built with clients, stakeholders and the public overall. Showing and adhering
to ethical standards and practices can help foster long-term working relationships and credibility.
Another benefit is that it aligns and unifies members around values that are shared and reinforces
a culture of ethical workplace practices.
B. Select two principles from the "ACM Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct" found
in the Web Links section below.
1. Explain how the selected principles are important in your current or future profession.
Honor Confidentiality: This principle is extremely important in my current profession as a IT
Support Specialist, in my role I handle critical and sensitive data daily, this principle. Honoring
the confidentiality of what I see is what enables me to build trust with users and colleagues. This
principle also supports and enables a culture of integrity.
Be Honest and Trustworthy: Being honest and trustworthy is such a big part of my job. I am
often in users' spaces alone and with their credentials. Being trustworthy allows my colleagues
and users to feel at ease while I am assisting them.
C. Explain the impact of bias in technology by doing the following:
1. Describe two negative impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) bias or AI misinformation.
Artificial intelligence has opened up so many possibilities, but what is also present are the
negative impacts shown. One of those is discrimination. Discrimination has shown to be present
in artificial intelligence with algorithms favoring certain demographics over others', and facial
recognition systems showing higher error rates for minorities and darker skin tones which can
lead to misidentification. Another glaring negative impact is how artificial intelligence is being
used in the spread of misinformation. Realistic videos, articles, and images are being generated
and used to push false narratives or incite chaos. That misinformation is amplified via social
media websites; this weakens trust in what we see.
