, ABSTRACT
This Project Paper presents a comprehensive study on the cargo receiving process at Dell
Penang, focusing on logistics errors that affect operational efficiency and inventory accuracy.
The research specifically examined key issues such as late arrivals, damaged goods, missing
items, delivery order problems, manifest discrepancies, and labeling errors within the
Shipping Department. Through systematic observation and analysis, the study identified that
many of these challenges stem from improper handling and storage practices, inadequate
packaging, shipping inconsistencies, and gaps in standard operating procedures. Damage-
related issues were found to be the most frequent, indicating significant weaknesses in cargo
handling processes.
The methodology was carefully structured to ensure accurate and reliable findings. Both
primary and secondary data were utilized, including direct observation of four staff members
Niraj, Deepak, Gunalan, and Afiq over a four-month period from 20 June 2025 to 17 October
2025, as well as analysis of company documents and reports. A structured Manual
Observation Form, supported by A4 documentation and Microsoft Word, enabled systematic
recording of operational errors. Formal approval from management ensured ethical data
collection, while a detailed Gantt Chart guided the project from initial planning to final
submission in an organized and timely manner.
The findings revealed noticeable differences in error frequency among staff members,
suggesting that factors such as experience level, workload, and task complexity influence
performance. This highlights the need for targeted corrective actions, including refresher
training, clearer task instructions, enhanced supervision, and improved utilization of the 365
Dynamics system.
Overall, the study provides practical recommendations to reduce cargo errors, strengthen
workflow efficiency, enhance inventory accuracy, and improve customer satisfaction. By
implementing improved handling guidelines, stricter packaging standards, and better system
utilization, Dell Penang can enhance its logistics performance and reinforce its role as a
reliable and efficient distribution hub.
