1. My proposed capstone research topic focuses on evidence-based classroom
management strategies for kindergarten teachers and creating a professional
development program that supports the implementation of these strategies. Classroom
management aligns with curriculum and instruction because it directly impacts
student engagement, learning outcomes, and the teacher’s capacity to provide
effective instruction. Creating a structured academic setting allows for more
instructional time and promotes a productive learning environment that promotes
learning as well as students’ social and emotional growth. This topic is significant
because many kindergarten classrooms face challenges with student behaviors, which
can negatively impact students’ ability to focus and engage during instructional time,
resulting in increased disruptions and reduced effective instruction. Using evidence-
based classroom management strategies like communicating clear expectations,
maintaining engagement, and minimizing disruptions, helps manage student
behaviors and improves instructional effectiveness. Zhang (2025) highlights that
effective classroom management in early childhood education is imperative is
promoting foundational learning outcomes in kindergarten. “Effective teaching and
learning cannot happen in poorly managed classrooms...Further, ineffective
classroom management strategies harm student wellbeing, responsibility, self-
concept, and result in a greater amount of disruptive behavior in the classroom”
(Karasova & Nehyba, 2023). Understanding and improving classroom management
in kindergarten is critical for creating a structured learning environment that enhances
students’ learning and supports positive academic and social-emotional development.
