Critical issue in the 21st Century Regarding Healthcare Ethics and Reform
The health care sector has faced huge quality issues in the United States. It has been an
issue that has been debated because of its implicit effect on people's overall well-being. The
system is no longer efficient; thus, people are subjected to low-quality health care services. One
of the most critical issues in the 21st century is a quality crisis in the United States. According to
the president of the Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health
Care Industry, today, in the United States, people cannot receive quality health care services for
any problem (Hajibabaee et al., 2016). This issue is critical because people are subjected to more
harm without quality health care services. There are many Americans that are dying every year
because of numerous medical errors. Fundamentally, the health care system protects the patients
from any medical errors. Therefore, with the decreased quality of healthcare, it becomes hard to
prevent such cases; thus, the reforms being made are not helping to end this critical issue.
Health care providers have a great role to play in ensuring that they provide quality care.
This is because they take part in providing care to people. They have the facilities to ensure that
everyone receives quality care without discrimination. According to a survey conducted on the
health care providers in the United States, their ability to provide quality care has reduced over
the last five years (Hajibabaee et al., 2016). This means they do not find a reason for reporting
any medical errors. However, health care providers are sworn to ensure that they provide quality
care to all patients. They are guided by the principle of non-maleficence, which holds that there
is an obligation not to cause harm. Therefore, as a way of upholding these principles, health care
practitioners can ensure that they streamline all their processes and create an environment where
patients can strive. Therefore, it will be easier for them to implement changes that will enhance
the quality of care offered in health care facilities.
