The purpose of this research project is to support teachers in learning how to use

strategies to equip their students with social problem-solving skills. The purpose aligns with the

problem statement because teachers in my school do not have the tools and resources to address

this problem.

Relevance: This article is relevant to my capstone project because it demonstrates the

impact of social-emotional learning (SEL) and social problem-solving interventions on students.

It is particularly valuable as it provides data to support its findings. The article helps show

teachers the relevance of SEL programs with elementary school students.

Findings: The findings showed that SEL, including social problem-solving, should be

maintained, not just taught once. In the article, a study was conducted. The study comprised a

control group, who received no intervention, and a group that received the SEL intervention. The

program was 10 weeks long. The group comparison results indicated that the intervention

successfully fostered the growth and long-term retention of social skills.
