Prior to her surgery, a patient states that she is very nervous and really doesn't understand what
the surgical procedure is or how it will be performed. The nurse should: - ANS Call the health
care provider to review the procedure with the patient
- it is the surgeon's responsibility to provide information and obtain consent from the patient
prior to surgery
Pre-op teaching - ANS - remind patient's they need to be NPO
- provide with equipment necessary
- remind them they will need to take their wedding ring off
- we need to teach them how to cough and deep breath/how to use an incentive spirometer to
prevent them from developing atelectasis
