validation, and documentation of data. In nursing there are 4 different types of assessments:
initial nursing assessment, time lapsed reassessment, focused assessment and emergency
assessment. Assessments require critical thinking. Goal is to establish a database about the
patients concerns, illness and ability to manage their own healthcare. The Joint Commission
requires initial nursing assessment documentation within 24 hours of admission.
