Pooch. 15-26. Globalisation and its E ects. 2016.
Globalisation, as a term, was rst used in 1983, although some argue that the process of
globalisation began with Columbus’ explorations in the 15th century. A second phase of
globalisation can be said to have occurred in the 1990s after the end of the Cold War.
Globalisation has resulted in greater interdependence of the market, more multidirectional
migration of people and the erosion of politics. There is a concern that globalisation has resulted
in the spread of Western culture such as through McDonaldization. Some would argue that in
some regions, such as in Latin America, hybridisation of culture has occurred between Western
and other cultures.
