● What Florida Statue Chapter regultes P.I?. Answer: Chapter 493


● Section 493.6101 (17) Regulated Activity- Private Investigation.
Answer: Investigation of a person for purpose of obtaining info with
reference to the following: Crime or wrong doings, identity, habits,
conduct, movement, etc of any society, person, or group, credibility of
witnesses or other persons, whereabouts of missing persons or property,
cause and origin of real or personal property, the business of securing
evidence to be used before investigating comittee or boards.


● Class C License- Private Investigator. Answer: individual who
performs investigative services, except an in-house investigator, must
have this license and must owner or be emploed by a licenses Class A P.I
agency or Class AA or AB branch office.


● Section 493.6201 (8). Answer: Class C or CC license may perform
bodyguard services without obtaining a Class D license


● Class CC license- Private Investigator Intern. Answer: Individual who
performs investiative services as an intern under the direction and
control of a desinated sponsoring class C licensee or designated
sponsoring class M or MA agency manager licensee.

,● Class A license- Private Investigative Agency. Answer: Company that
engages in business as an investigative agency. This license is only valid
for one location.


● Calss AA- Branch Office. Answer: Each of these offices of Class A
agency shall have this license.


● Class M or MA license- Agency Manager. Answer: Individual who
performs services of a manger for a Class A agency or class AA branch
office must have this license.


● Section 493.6106 (2)(d). Answer: Each agency or branch office shall
designate a minimum of one licensed individual to act as manager of
Class C or CC employees


● Section 493.6111 (2) and 493.6113. Answer: Unless license is
suspended or revoked, licenses are valid for 2 years, except for Class A,
Class AA or AB, and Class K which are valid for 3 years.


● In-house Investigators. Answer: No license required, an unarmed
investigator who is solely emploued as an investigator in connection
with the business of their employer when employer does not provide, or
advestise investigative services for a fee. Unlicensed investigator may

investigative work, college course work related to criminal justice,
criminology, or law enforcement, except that no more than 1 year may
be used from this category, or work as a class CC intern.


● Section 493.6203 (5) (a) and (b). Answer: Applicant for class MA, M,
or C license must pass an exam that covers the provisions of Chapter
493. Successful completion of exam must be submitted with application.
If license is invalid for more than 1 year, person must take and pass
exam again.


● Firearms Section 493.6115 (2) (6) and (17). Answer: Class C or class
CC must obtain class G firearm license in order to carry in the course of
their duties. Licensee has authority to carry .38 revolver, .380 caliber, or
9mm pistol, or .357 caliber revoler with .38 caliber ammo. No licensee
can carry more than 2 firearms on person during duties. Licensee may
not carry a concealed firearm under concealed weapon license pursuant
to Section 790.06.
