, Definition of Dyslipidemia
Dyslipidemia is defined as an alteration in plasma lipid levels that poses
cardiovascular risk, specifically including elevated total cholesterol, low-density
lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and triglyceride levels, as well as reduced
high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels or hypoalphalipoproteinemia.
These dyslipidemias represent substantial risk factors for cardiovascular diseases,
which constitute the leading cause of death globally.
