• History helps us understand how people lived in the past.
• Over hundreds of years many changes happened in society, culture, language, and technology.
2. Medieval Period
• The period between the 8th century and the 18th century in India is called the medieval period.
• During this time many kingdoms rose and fell.
3. Sources of History
• Historians use different sources to study the past.
• These include manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, monuments, and travellers’ records.
4. Manuscripts
• Manuscripts are handwritten documents.
• They were written on palm leaves or handmade paper.
5. Inscriptions
• Inscriptions are writings carved on stone, metal, or walls.
• They give information about rulers, events, and donations.

• Languages changed over time.
• New languages like Hindi, Urdu, and regional languages developed.
