Airborne/Contact precautions.-Tx:Dry lesions with Wet to Dry dressing
(Burow's solution),Give valacyclovir within 48 hrs of rash, Give
Zostavax for 60 yrs or older to prevent Shingles, Avoid contact with
others after given Zostavax.
● Fungal/Candidiasis (Yeast) Infections-Nursing Care. Answer: caused
by Dermatophytes (live in soil, animals, or humans)-Ringworms/Thrush
infections: Tinea Capitis (in scalp), Tinea Corporis (skin), Tinea Pedis
(feet).- Confirmed with skin biopsy in KOH (potassium hydroxide
, solution). Tx with ketoconazole/Mycostatin powder, keep skin dry and
clean.
● Cellulitis/ Lymphangitis (Bacterial Infections)- Nursing Care. Answer:
Infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissue caused by Strep/Staphylo/
Haemophilus influenza- Children (otitis media), S/S: redness,swelling,
firm tissue, fever, malaise. -(Lymphangitis) red streaks, abcess
formation. Tx: immobilize affected area, warm moist compress,
antibiotics.
● Psoriasis (Vulgaris/ Exfoliative). Answer: Scaling disorder of the
epidermal cells in outer layer skin- can develop psoriatic arthritis leading
to Rheumatoid arthritis.- Vulgaris: Thick red Papules or silvery white
scales, bilateral lesions found on scalp, elbows, trunk, knees, sacrum.-
Exfoliative: Erythema and scaling with no lesions, can cause
dehydration from evaporated water loss.
● Psoriasis (Vulgaris/ Exfoliative) Nursing Care/Tx. Answer: Provide
emotional support. -Tx: Ultraviolet Light Therapy. Provide dark glasses.
